UVC FAQ
Yes – ultraviolet lamps are used in homes, as well as in hospitals, laboratories, clean rooms, doctors″ offices, commercial buildings, food processing plants and other commercial and residential environments throughout the world – any place a concern for clean air exists.
Yes. Germicidal UVC lamps will kill up to 99.9% of mould and help prevent future mould growth.
Our germicidal UVC lamps are good for approximately 8,000 hours of continuous use.
Yes – depending on the surrounding environment, UVC lamps should be checked periodically (approximately every three months), and can be cleaned with a dry cotton cloth or paper towel. Wear rubber gloves and clean with alcohol only. This will also help maximize lamp life.
The exposure of germicidal ultraviolet is the product of time and intensity. High intensities for a short period and low intensities for a long period are fundamentally equal in lethal action on bacteria. The inverse square law applies to germicidal ultraviolet as it does to light: the killing power decreases as the distance from the lamps increases. The average bacterium will be killed in ten seconds at a distance of 15centimeters from the UVC lamp.
Ultraviolet light in the germicidal wavelength – 185-254 nanometers – renders the organisms sterile. When organisms can no longer reproduce, they die.
Germicidal UVC lamps do not produce much heat – about the same as fluorescent lamps.
Zero. You will not be exposed to UVC light during disinfection. Prolonged, direct exposure to UVC light can cause temporary skin redness and eye irritation, but does not cause skin cancer or cataracts. Do not allow exposure to ultraviolet irradiation and allow for safe operation and maintenance. If you are exposed to direct germicidal light, it can burn the top surface of your skin. If your eyes are exposed, it would be similar to a “welder’s flash”, and your eyes can feel dry or gritty. At no time do germicidal lamps cause any permanent damage.
Long-term exposure of germicidal UVC light to plastics will shorten the shelf life of the plastic by approximately 10%. Example: If the plastic would normally last about ten years, and it’s exposed to germicidal UVC light the entire time, it would probably need to be replaced in 9 years. Plant life may be damaged by direct, or reflected, germicidal ultraviolet rays. Transient dyes and colours may be faded from prolonged exposure to ultraviolet rays.
No – germicidal UVC sterilises only what it comes in contact with.

And many more
There are hundreds of research articles and video evidence available where scientists test effectiveness of UVC light against various types of viruses.
Please visit our Videos about UV-C page where we have links to some of recent videos about UVC technology.
There are many factors to consider when buying UVC lamps. If you are not sure which of our products is best for you, please contact us via online chat, email, sms, or call us on 0452530205. We will be happy to discuss your UVC lamps requirements.
As often as you wish. Regular use of UVC lamps guarantees you conduct your business or live in in germ free environment.
There are many advantages of using UVC technology for disinfection purposes. Some of those are as following:
1. UVC disinfection is labour free. You will need simply need to plug in the UVC lamp into power point and let UVC technology do the work for you.
2. Chemical free disinfection. Using UVC light means you do not need to use harsh chemicals to disinfect.
3. UVC light disinfects air as well as exposed surfaces. There are no conventional cleaning methods available besides fumigation where you can disinfect air and kill all air borne germs and bacteria.
4. And many many more
Yes it is. Prolonged exposure to any light source is dangerous for humans and animals alike. Sunburn is a perfect example.
Therefore to avoid any possible damage, you will need to leave areas impacted by UVC exposure during the disinfection period.
This simple and most effective strategy avoids any possible problems associated with exposure to UVC lights.
Mould Treatment
Mould loves moisture, humidity and damp environments. It thrives from it. And Australia experiences vast, changeable weather conditions throughout all seasons. From mild winters, humid summers to a combination of weather fluctuations throughout the day, Australia’s conditions provide the perfect environment for mould growth.
When we experience humid temperatures or extensive periods of rainfall, it results in excess moisture in the air. When you pair these conditions with lack of regular airflow throughout the home, little to no sunlight and condensation build-up, mould will grow and spread. Other causes may also include flooding, water damage or unresolved and ongoing leaks.
Mould is a fungus and has thousands of strains in Australia that can be found growing almost anywhere in the home. They can appear as different textures, colours and even smell profiles depending on the type and maturity stage of the mould. The most well-known mould type is Stachybotrys Chartarum or toxic black mould.
Mould can be tricky to identify and often requires professional analysis to determine the type/s of mould present in the home. Some strains of mould are more dangerous than others and can be harmful to elderly family members, children, pregnant women and those with a compromised immune system.
Mould eats its way through materials by decomposing matter. In instances where mould is present on a painted surface for a period of time, it can result in underlying damage to the quality of paint. This usually isn’t noticeable until the mould removal treatment has disrupted the surface.
These instances are quite rare because mould remediation is usually completed early enough to prevent damage to the paint.
Small spots of mould that you see in-between tile grout is not considered harmful, however, when left untreated mould will spread and can be dangerous. It is known to lead to respiratory health issues, disrupting air quality and risk the health and wellbeing of you and your family. Especially those with existing allergies, compromised immune systems, elderly family members and children.
If a tenant fails to take precautions or preventative measures to inhibit mould growth in a rental property, then they will likely responsible for remediating mould damage. This may include not allowing natural light or airflow throughout the property or failure to inform the landlord of water damage or ongoing leaks.
On the other hand, if the landlord has not fulfilled their landlord obligations that has led to an inhabitable premises, then they are responsible. This may include failing to repair leaks or water damage, failure to clean the premises before a tenant moves in or a failure to repair rising damp.
Responsibility of mould removal is always assessed on a case-by-case basis and should be discussed with your real estate agent.
Understandably, there is no set price for mould removal. Every property is different when it comes to the severity and type of mould, to the equipment required for effective remediation. Luckily, our free inspection process ensures that you receive a detailed findings report outlining everything you need to know about the extent and cost of remediation before we get started. No need to worry about hidden add-ons – we’ll give you transparent findings backed by a fair price.
There are hundreds of DIY mould removal techniques available that may be used for small spot removal, but they only offer a temporary fix for an ongoing problem. At MouldMen, we identify and target the cause of the problem, not just treat the symptoms. If mould keeps returning in your home, it’s best to reach out to the experts to provide a long-term solution.
Yes, but not for long. When we treat your property we only need you to vacate the property for the duration of treatment and for three hours afterwards. No need to worry about finding somewhere to stay overnight. This is because we use a non-irritant, water-soluble misting treatment to remove up to 99.99% mould spores and odours. It’s food, kid, pet and plant safe and naturally biodegrades completely after 48 hours.
Ozone Disinfection
Our commercial grade Ozone generators produce 80gr/hr of Ozone gas. The incorporated specially designed high flow fan system ensures the Ozone gas is quickly and efficiently spread throughout the treatment zone. This ensures that we can deliver the correct concentration and spread of Ozone gas required to effectively disinfect the treatment area, in the shortest possible treatment cycle time.
Ozone disinfection is a method of using the ozonation reaction of ozone gas to sterilise bacteria, viruses and moulds both on surface and airborne.
It is the use of specific concentrations of Ozone (O³) gas produced by a powerful ozone generator in an enclosed space. When ozone reaches specific concentrations in the enclosed space (room, office space, shop, treatment rooms etc.), the gas kills bacteria and neutralises viruses on any surface that comes into contact with the gas. This includes all hard surfaces as well as carpets, curtains, fabrics, chairs, wall etc.
Ozone is produced in the Ozone generator by combining oxygen and electricity. At the end of the process, the Ozone (O³) gas simply reverts back to Oxygen (O²) and because the process does not use any chemical additives, ozonation does not leave toxic residues on surfaces or in the air.
The antipathogenic effects of ozone have been substantiated for several decades. Its killing action upon bacteria, viruses, fungi, and in many species of protozoa, serve as the basis for its increasing use in disinfecting municipal water supplies in cities worldwide.
Typically, viruses are small, independent particles, built of crystals and macromolecules. Unlike bacteria, they multiply only within the host cell. Ozone destroys viruses by diffusing through the protein coat into the nucleic acid core, resulting in damage of the viral RNA. At higher concentrations, ozone destroys the capsid or exterior protein shell by oxidation.
Numerous families of viruses including poliovirus I and 2, human rotaviruses, Norwalk virus, Parvoviruses, and Hepatitis A, B and non-A non-B are among many others that are susceptible to the virucidal actions of ozone. Most research efforts on ozone’s virucidal effects have centred upon ozone’s propensity to break apart lipid molecules at sites of multiple bond configuration. Indeed, once the lipid envelope of the virus is fragmented, its DNA or RNA core cannot survive. Non-enveloped viruses (Adenoviridae, Picornaviridae, namely poliovirus, Coxsachie, Echovirus, Rhinovirus, Hepatitis A and E, and Reoviridae (Rotavirus), have also begun to be studied. Viruses that do not have an envelope are called “naked viruses.” They are constituted of a nucleic acid core (made of DNA or RNA) and a nucleic acid coat, or capsid, made of protein. Ozone, however, aside from its well-recognized action upon unsaturated lipids, can also interact with certain proteins and their constituents, namely amino acids.
Indeed, when ozone comes in contact with capsid proteins, protein hydroxides and protein hydroxides and protein hydroperoxides are formed. Viruses have no protections against oxidative stress. The enveloped viruses are usually more sensitive to physico-chemical challenges than are naked virions. Although ozone’s effects upon unsaturated lipids is one of its best documented biochemical action, ozone is known to interact with proteins, carbohydrates, and nucleic acids. The new coronavirus is an enveloped virus and therefore can be effectively treated using Ozone.
Ozone is one of the most powerful disinfectants. It is 50 times more effective at disinfection compared to the most popular disinfectant – chlorine, and the effects of its action are visible 3,000 times faster.
Being in a gas form, it can penetrate almost all the corners of the space and therefore thoroughly disinfect the room. And experiments and tests show that the sterilising rate of ozone on various bacteria and viruses is 99.9%.
Using ozone to disinfect has the advantage that the ozone generated on-site reverts back to oxygen when the treatment cycle is completed.
Generally speaking it takes 15min of ozonation to kill most of the bacteria and viruses, and 30mins to kill all viruses and bacteria that have a presence in habitable area.
Ozone generators produce high volumes of Ozone gas to rapidly fill the space we are wanting to treat, however the space size effects how long it takes to disinfect an area. The disinfection cycle can last from a few minutes (for smaller spaces) to 2.5 hours for larger areas.
The same chemical properties that allow high concentrations of ozone to react with organic material outside the body give it the ability to react with similar organic material that makes up the body, and potentially cause harmful health consequences. When inhaled, ozone can damage the lungs. Relatively low amounts can cause chest pain, coughing, shortness of breath and throat irritation. Ozone may also worsen chronic respiratory diseases such as asthma and compromise the ability of the body to fight respiratory infections. For our full service customers, our Ozone disinfection cycles are strictly conducted in closed off spaces where our trained operators have ensured there are no people, pets or plants present during treatment. For our rental customers, the disinfection cycles are designed for each individual client and application. This ensures the space is properly disinfected and that sufficient time is allocated so that the ozone gas can dissipate and revert back to oxygen thus ensuring no harmful exposure when people re-enter the space. Unlike traditional chemical cleaning procedures, once the cycle is complete, ozone does not leave any toxic air borne or surface residues.
Due to the instability of ozone, theoretically there should be zero presence of ozone gas 60min after the machine ceases it’s cycle.
Disinfection using Ozone gas is faster and far more efficient than traditional surface cleaning. The Ozone gas, just like oxygen, can completely fill the treatment space and covers all surfaces in the space. This includes inside keyboards, under desks, under arm rests on chairs, door handles, on walls, pens, and other objects in the space. Ozone also disinfects carpets, curtains and even seating fabrics. Most importantly ozone disinfection is achieved by using ozone gas (O³) which then reverts back to oxygen (O²) when the disinfection cycle is completed. This means so cleaning cloths, chemical sprays, plastic waste or toxic residues. Additionally ozone leaves no residue.
There are many airborne bacteria and viruses that can be harmful to human body and cause disease. Disinfecting the air can significantly reduce the transmission of respiratory disease and the common cold.
Our high output ozone generators disinfect the air as well as all the other surfaces and objects in the treatment area, thus resulting in a more complete disinfection cycle.
Yes, Ozone Disinfection kills mould spores, fungi and yeast. If mould spores are disturbed, they can become airborne and, if inhaled, they can cause health problems. That is why it is important to use Ozone to kill the mould before you attempt to clean up and remove the mould spores from surfaces.
